My Story:
Carnivore Records was created with a specific need in mind: to release the music I was making with my high school garage band. I’ve always been a do-it-yourself kind of person, so in 1996, starting with “Feral Elysium’s” first cassette, I set myself to learning the skills of recording, mixing, mastering, graphic design, duplication, and distribution through doing. Probably not the easiest or fastest way–I could have paid someone else to do it–but I was determined to learn for myself! Over the years this DIY approach has let me see a lot of different facets of the music industry first-hand.
Through my Bachelor of Music (Composition/Music Technology) at Acadia I continued teaching myself in the music industry; learning how to book shows, promote, and manage an online presence. Some of my proudest achievements from these days were receiving a standing ovation at my graduation recital and completing a four-show mini tour of the Maritimes with my hip-hop group “The Sound and The Fury“.
I continued my musical dreams after university, playing in various original and cover bands, writing songs, traveling the country, and along the way picking up the guitar, banjo, and drums. I worked in music retail on both Canadian coasts, and my continued learning with live sound and the entertainment business. After slaving away in various non-music jobs and pursuing music with the time I had left, I decided to take a leap of faith and enroll in the Music Business program at NSCC in Dartmouth, NS. This program was an amazing compliment to both my university music (theory) education and my school-of-hard-knocks DIY learning.
I sustain myself with my passion – MUSIC!
I still play in a band (BurgerFriesPop) and record, mix, and release our material.
